AUBIE

One of my favorite memories from childhood was going to the Auburn Football games to watch my godmother, Missy, cheer. I remember getting a paw print panted on my cheek and picking up Auburn cups after the game with Miss Peggy. I remember watching homecoming parades and drinking lemonade!!

Well, after my brief stint as an Alabama fan, and Josh's obsession with Auburn football, it wasn't too hard to go back to my childhood days of cheering on the Tigers! Now I have new great memories of tale gating and going to the games with Josh, mom, Ryan and Emily!

Ever since Jacob was born (even before) we have been anticipating taking him to Auburn! His first trip was in May for Ginny and Robby's wedding. It was a short trip and he was young, but he did get his Auburn stroller!! We are eagerly awaiting Jacob's first football game! I know Josh can't wait to throw the football with him!

Well, as fate would have it, Jacob got to meet Aubie last weekend! I was in Tuscaloosa for a camp at the University of Alabama. Josh and Jacob were in Birmingham and ended up driving down to pick me up (I know, I have a very sweet husband!). Well, being in mom mode, I realized that Aubie was there for Mascot Camp! I sweetly went up to Benji and Adam, the Mascot instructors and asked them if we could get our picture made with Aubie and they said no problem!! I quickly called Josh and told him to bring Jacob's Auburn shirt!

We waited anxiously for Aubie to "get ready." I guess he had a hard time picking what shirt he would wear (you have to read the shirt on the pictures)! Aubie finally came out to meet us and it is something I will never forget! I guess as a parent, I remember the great memories my parents gave me and am eager to give those to our son. I am sure it is a story that we will tell Jacob when he is old enough to understand. Aubie came out and was so great with us! He waved to Jacob but didn't come over too quick so he wouldn't scare him! He came over and sat down on the floor and I knelt down with Jacob. He looked at Aubie and reached out to feel his face.

We proceeded to slowly get Jacob closer to Aubie and he wasn't scared at all! Just really curious! (Don't forget to read Aubie's shirt.....toooooo funny! I can't believe he had that at camp!) We slowly got closer and were able to put Jacob in Aubie's lap! He was so great!! And the rest of the mascot staff were such a great help trying to get Jacob to smile and look up!
We took several pictures and Jacob was great!! We stood up and got to take a great family picture! I am sure it will grace our house for many years to come!!
I just wish it was a few months later and this could be our Christmas card! But for now it will have to just be our "Happy Football Season" picture!! It was truly a great experience! I don't think Josh and I could keep the smiles off of our faces the rest of the day! Hopefully it is just the first of many Auburn and Aubie pictures for the Morris family!!

Why I love mornings

I have always been a morning person. Thank goodness Josh is too. We always feel guilty sleeping in after about 8 am or so. Well, we are glad that Jacob has turned out that way too! Now my mornings are even more special because of our "routine" with Jacob! Here is how it usually goes:
I am usually ready by the time Jacob wakes up. Josh usually goes into his room and gets him. It always brings a smile to my face when I see the two of them together in the morning. Both with their "just woken up" eyes and smiles on their faces. Jacob's smile in the morning makes my whole day! He is so happy and excited for what the day has to come! The three of us usually swap good mornings, etc for a few minutes and then Jacob gets a bath. Here are a few picturesthat we took first thing in the morning:

We started giving him a bath in the morning and he seems to really like it. He got a "big boy" bath tub that he enjoys. We are so glad he likes the water! Jacob and I usually have several "conversations" about the day and how he slept that night while he gets "fresh and clean." For some reason he LOVES being wrapped in his towel! He smiles and laughs and doesn't mind it at all! We think he would stay like that all day if we let him! He talks like crazy on his changing table while we get him dressed for school. Here is a picture of him in his towel (you can tell he loves his fingers right now!):

After that, he gets a bottle and cereal. He is doing really well eating his cereal and fruits! So far we have fed him bananas and peaches. We should have had the camera ready on the peaches. His face was so funny! (We will remember that next time we try something new!) There are some pictures below of him in his highchair. Emily's coworker gave us a smaller one and it is PERFECT for Jacob right now!

After he eats, he plays in his bouncy seat for a little while so I can gather any last minute things for the day. Then it's off to school! I can't tell you how much I enjoy our morning routine. He is so smily and talkative and it just makes my day! I hope that we can continue this as a family as Jacob gets older, as it is such a joy!

Happy days and hiccups

I am still trying to figure out how to post video to our blog, but for now, this will have to work!
Saturday while Josh was mowing the grass, I decided to put Jacob in his bumpo seat and put the tray on it so he could play with his toys. Needless to say he was laughing like crazy! Of course, when I pick up the video camera, he stops, but you can see the aftermath.....the hiccups!! Jacob has been getting the hiccups ever since I was pregnant with him! Here is a short video clip of him...you can hear his hiccups and he talks a little...too into his toys!

Hope you all are well!

Laughing day

Well, today has been a day full of laughs!! Jacob has been laughing so much!! Josh can really get him to laugh loud! He gets the hiccups sometimes, but it is so much fun to watch him laugh!!
Here are a few pictures from today!

One of Josh's co-workers gave him this onezie for Jacob. It is TOO funny!

Also, this weekend Jacob starting pushing up on his arms while on his stomach! All that tummy time helped!

Cereal and sleeping through the night

Well, with Jacob being 4 months old now (time surely flies!) we decided to start him on some cereal and fruits. We decided that a little help from Mimi would help us with getting Jacob to eat. So, while we were in Gulf Shores, we started feeding Jacob cereal. After about 2 feedings, he had the hang of it!! YEA! A few days later we started feeding him bananas and he loved those too! He now opens his mouth really well and finishes every bit we have fixed for him!

I love this picture....he has this little smile like he is up to something!

I am convinced that Jacob has an internal alarm clock that wakes him up everynight between 2:30 am and 3:30 am. Oh what Josh and I would do for him to sleep all night! We got back from Gulf Shores Sunday night and decided that would be his first night to sleep in his crib in his room! We set up the monitors and put him to sleep! He seemed to like his own room! Well, little did we know that Monday night, he would sleep through the night for the first time! YEA! I woke up that night about 2:30 am knowing that in the next hour he would wake up to eat. I woke up again at 4:00 am and he was still asleep! He ended up sleeping until a little after 6 am!

Tuesday night he woke up again at 3:30 am and last night he woke up at 4 am, but we think that was because his diaper had leaked. One of my nicknames for him is "pee pee man" because he does that SOOO much! We have been trying different types of diapers in hopes that one will be "more absorbant" while Jacob is sleeping! No luck yet!

But, we are hoping that he is almost to sleeping through the night! We think he likes being in his room, and really likes his crib! My, how he is growing up already!

Beach trip

As many of you know...Josh and I love the beach! We got married there! There is nothing like sitting on the beach and listening to the waves crash! It always brings back so many great memories! Summer beach trips with the Haneys, Gilchrists, and the Thompson/McKinnleys! Remember, Beach or BUST! :) It also brings up a great trip to see my Aunt and Uncle in Ocean Springs, MS one year. My uncle had taken us to an island on the sailboat and after getting there all the cousins played for hours on the beach!
Anyway, we have been looking forward to taking Jacob to the beach for the first time! And about this time every year, Josh and I get the beach itch! So, we decided to spend our first 4th of July in Gulf Shores with my mom and Steve. We loaded up our car first thing Saturday morning (to the tune of Josh saying we needed a bigger car because we had so much stuff) and drove to Birmingham to stay with Ryan and Emily for the night! We were so excited that Dad, Judy, Jackson and Joni came over too and we cooked out! It was tons of fun!! Ryan and Emily had just bought the Rockband game and we played it from 2-9:00!! Jacob even played the drums with Emily!

We loaded up Sunday morning and headed to Gulf Shores! Jacob was really good and slept/played the whole trip. But we were glad to be able to get out of the car! 2 days and 8 hours is a LONG time!!
We took Jacob to the beach! He seemed to like it! He loves the water in his bath so we thought he would like it! Only once did he get upset when a wave crashed by him. I think it startled him!
Here is Jacob walking in the sand!

We had a blast at the beach! Mimi (my mom) bought Jacob a great float! He loves the color red right now so it was perfect! He was quite the little swimmer! We had a great week in Gulf Shores and can't wait to go back in September!

Family of 3

Well, it has been more than a while since we posted! A lot has gone on since then! My sweet sister and brother in law started their own blog, so I figured I should get on the bandwagon! With our little man growing so quickly! It is hard to keep up so maybe this will help!

Here is a little catch up! Jacob Tyler Morris was born on March 1, 2008 at 7:58pm! I was in labor for 24 hours, but despite all of my worries, I was blessed with a great labor and delivery! Dr Bannister was very paitent with me and I am so thankful for that!

The first few days were long and had many ups and downs! Thank goodness my God sent mom was here to help! We were so fortunate to have her help us with not only Jacob and dealing with a newborn, but also help us with the day to day house duties (cleaning, washing the 100 burp cloths we used, cooking and much more!). I cried the day she left! I had such mixed emotions, sad to see her leave, excited to be with Jacob and scared all at the same time!

My 6 weeks maternity leave flew by! I was getting stir crazy about week 4/5. We took a long weekend trip to Birmingham when Jacob was 4 weeks old. He slept the whole way!

I started back to work on Tuesday, April 15th. Josh and I both had Monday off, so we decided to take Jacob to "school" that day for a half day. We not only wanted to get him used to it, but us as well! It would also give us a little time to spend together. We took Jacob in to school and to my surprise, Josh was the one who was upset not me! To say the least, Jacob loves school. We are blessed to have a very sweet lady, Ms. Roberta there who adores Jacob and he adores her! He just smiles when she talks to him! She even came and babysat for us so Josh could take me to dinner for my birthday. I never worry about him at school, but I do miss him dearly during the day and can't wait to see him each afternoon!

Jacob is growing so fast and makes me smile each day! He is a happy guy but from what they tell us at school, he has a temper. We are working on that!

I am excited to share our world here in Memphis with everyone! I promise I will post more often!
